I find limestone pavements a joy to photograph because of their interesting shapes. Often they feature cracks that run in parallel lines which can be used to create a foreground structure in a photograph. When a lone tree is also added to the equation I am very happy. The limestone pavement here at Winskill Stones covers quite a small area but it has a wonderful backdrop as the landscape sweeps out into the distance. There was no sign of the sun when I took this photograph so I used a long exposure to slightly blur the clouds moving overhead.
